Four members of Swansea City's backroom team leave to join Russell Martin at Southampton

Swansea City are close to naming Michael Duff's new-look backroom team, following the departure of four members of the Russell Martin regime.

Assistant head coach Matt Gill, goalkeeping coach Dean Thornton, first-team performance analyst Ben Parker and head of rehabilitation Rhys Owen have all left to join Martin at Southampton, who are undergoing a summer of upheaval following their relegation from the Premier League.

Swansea's own summer of change has seen Duff drafted in as Martin's successor, and he's now understood to be closing in on appointing his own members of staff as he bids to make his mark on the club over the coming season.

Indeed, an announcement on Duff's coaching team could well be made within the next 24 hours. Duff himself is currently overseeing the club's pre-season training camp in Spain, where his players are being put through their paces ahead of a busy summer schedule

In a short statement confirming the departure of the coaching quartet, the club said: "Swansea City can confirm the departures of four members of the club’s coaching staff.

"Assistant head coach Matt Gill, goalkeeping coach Dean Thornton, first-team performance analyst Ben Parker and head of rehabilitation Rhys Owen have all left the club to join Southampton.

"Gill, Thornton and Parker joined the club following Russell Martin’s appointment as head coach in July 2021, while Owen was added to the Swansea staff in the summer of 2022.

"Swansea City would like to place on record its thanks for their hard work during their time in SA1, and wish them well in their future careers."
