THANE: Four members of a family suffered major burn injuries when their row house caught fire possibly after coming in contact with a low tension electricity wire passing over their area, Monday afternoon, officials informed.
The injured were rushed to the local hospital and later referred to Kasturba hospital in Mumbai.
Avinash Sawant, chief at the regional disaster management cell informed that the incident was reported post noon when the roof of the house owned by one B S Islam, situated in the modest Zagde chawl locality in Shivaji Nagar area of Mumbra, caught fire.
It is suspected that some combustible material stored on the roof may have come in contact with the power line and caught fire. The fire damaged a major portion of the house and also spread to the neighbouring structure that suffered minimal damage, informed Sawant.
Meanwhile, locals rushed to the spot and managed to rescue the family that was trapped inside the structure. The injured have been identified as Alimuddin Sayyad (35), Salma Sayyad (30) and their two minor daughters who were staying on lease in the house.
The exact cause of the blaze will be investigated, informed officials.
