Four Mancunians fined £200 and kicked out of Derbyshire for breaking lockdown

Four men who travelled out of Greater Manchester to spent a night in Derbyshire have been fined by police for breaching Covid-19 lockdown restrictions.

Police said there was 'no exceptional reason for them doing so'.

All four were slapped with fines of £200 each.

Officers from Derbyshire Constabulary said they found the four 'young adults' who had travelled from Manchester into the Peak District on Wednesday, January 13.

Buxton Police Safer Neighbourhood Team said the group wanted to stay overnight in the Chapel-en-le-Frith area, reports Derbyshire Live.

Officers said they did not have a reasonable excuse for doing so though, leading all four to be fined for breaching Covid restrictions before they were sent back to the Greater Manchester area.

It's the latest in a string of Covid-19 breaches revealed by police in the counties neighbouring Greater Manchester.

The Manchester Evening News revealed two 'ill-equipped' walkers travelled more than 60 miles from Rochdale to scale a mountain summit during lockdown.

Police said the couple were 'incredibly fortunate' to have escaped unhurt in 'treacherous' weather conditions.

They were rescued by specialist mountaineers in the Yorkshire Dales on Sunday.

After that case, police said driving 'miles and miles out of your village town or city to visit an open space' was not a 'necessary journey'.

Officers in Derbyshire revealed details of the clear-cut violation of the rules in a post on their Facebook page.

The post reads: "An officer from Buxton Safer Neighbourhood Team has issued four fines to individuals whom have breached the Covid regulations tonight in the Chapel area.

Government guidance states you cannot leave your home to stay overnight elsewhere unless you have a reasonable excuse for doing so.

This includes staying with anyone who you don't live with unless they are in your support bubble.

These permitted reasons include people being unable to return to their main residence, needing accommodation while moving house, needing accommodation for work or voluntary purposes or if you are homeless, seeking asylum or trying to escape harm (including domestic abuse).

Anyone who is caught breaking the rules could be fined £200, lowered to £100 if paid within 14 days.

Second time offenders will be fine £400 with the amount doubling for each further offence up to £6,400.
