Manchester United look set to release four young players when their contracts expire in June this season.
United quartet Paul Woolston, Arnau Puigmal, Max Taylor and Connor Stanley will not sign new deals and are all braced to depart this summer, MEN Sport understands.
Goalkeeper Woolston, 22, has been with United since 2018 after initially coming through the Newcastle academy, hailing from Tyneside. He has largely been unused in the Under-23s this season, playing second fiddle to Ondrei Mastny and Matej Kovar in goal for Neil Wood's side.
Versatile Spanish youngster Puigmal has been touted for a move back to his homeland and, aged 20, looks likely to seek new opportunities in the summer. He travelled with the United first team to Astana in November last season but didn't come off the bench and could leave without making a first-team appearance.
Centre-back Taylor, 21, was also on that trip and likewise remained an unused substitute. He battled back from having cancer treatment to resume his United career in 2019 and has spent this season on loan at Kidderminster Harriers. He signed a one-year contract extension in May last year.
Wide player Stanley, 19, also looks set to be released by United when his deal expires on June 30th.
United have recently agreed new contracts with youngster Shola Shoretire, while Teden Mengi and James Garner — currently on loan at Championship rivals Derby and Nottingham Forest respectively — will have their situations assessed in the summer. The pair are contracted until June 2022.
It is not yet known whether 18-year-olds Mastny, Charlie McCann and Harvey Neville — son of ex United star Phil — or 19-year-old defender Reece Devine will have their contracts extended beyond the end of the current season.
