Four Manchester United players set to return from injury this month

Manchester United defender Eric Bailly could make his return from a long-term knee injury before the end of the year.

Bailly, 25, injured his right knee in the friendly win over Tottenham in Shanghai in late July but returned to training recently ahead of a hectic run of fixtures.

United have nine matches in December, starting with the visit of Aston Villa on Sunday, and could welcome back midfielders Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba from ankle injuries next week.

Right-back Diogo Dalot has been out for nearly two months and could be available for the League Cup quarter-final with Colchester United on December 18.

"I am hopeful that before the end of the year we can have a lot more bodies back from injury," Solskjaer said in his programme notes. "We're hoping to see Scott, Diogo, Paul and Eric back this month, while Thursday's game in Astana was a good opportunity to get some of the lads some valuable playing time to integrate them fully into the squad."

Solskjaer clarified in midweek Pogba could face Tottenham on Wednesday or Manchester City on Saturday, while McTominay has not recovered in time for the Villa match.

"He's stepping up his recovery and let's see how soon he'll be match-fit and available," Solskjaer said of Pogba. "Of course that's gonna be a new signing for us, he's not really been able to play for us so when we get him back it'll be like a new world-class signing, a new world-class midfielder.

"Sunday, no. Tottenham? I can't say now, because I've not been home and seen him, let's see where he's at when he comes back and starts training with us.

"So of course we want him back as soon as possible. Every player is allowed to be injured and when he's injured Paul is working hard to be back, no one can doubt his professionalism, his willingness or his desire to play football, he's a footballer and he's one of the best midfielders in the world.

"And, as I said before, it'll be like signing a new player before the transfer window opens. Of course we've missed him when he's been away, some of the players - Scotty and Fred - have taken up that challenge and have done well but, of course it's a boost for us when he comes back."
