Four Lives: Is the new BBC drama a true story?

The new BBC drama Four Lives tells the harrowing and emotional story of the murder of four young men and their families' fight for justice.

Four Lives is based on real events after the horrific rape and murder of Anthony Walgate, Gabriel Kovari, Daniel Whitworth and Jack Taylor by Stephen Port.

Stephen Port was known as the Grindr Killer as he used the dating app Grindr to target young men and then dumped their bodies near his home in Barking, east London.

The murders took place in 2014 and 2015. In 2016 Stephen Port was found guilty of the murder and received a whole-life order, meaning he will never be released from prison.

Last year there was a new inquest into the case which found that failings by the Met Police contributed to the deaths of Gabriel Kovari, Daniel Whitworth, and Jack Taylor.

The BBC waited until the results of the inquest before airing Four Lives which tells the true story of the victim's families and friends and their fight for justice, as loved ones of Port's victim Anthony Walgate continued to raise concerns about the murders.

Four Lives aims to "go beneath the headlines to shed new light on this story by telling it from the point of view of the families and friends of the four young men".

Fours Lives continues on Tuesday, January 4, and Wednesday, January 5 at 9pm on BBC One.
