Four Liverpool players could be suspended after Real Madrid clash

Four Liverpool players will be walking a disciplinary tightrope against Real Madrid on Wednesday night.

Sadio Mane, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Gini Wijnaldum and James Milner would all miss the first leg of the semi-final against Chelsea should they be booked and the Reds overturn a 3-1 first-leg deficit to progress.

Of course, that's a big if but Jurgen Klopp will no doubt be concerned given the prominence those men have amongst his squad.

All four players, and the injured captain Jordan Henderson, have each picked up two bookings since the start of the group stage and one more infringement will see them miss the next game.

No other club had as many players at risk of suspension heading into this round.

Alexander-Arnold and Wijnaldum have played a very significant part for Liverpool in the European Cup this season, with both featuring in the top five players for minutes played on the continent under Klopp.

Meanwhile, Mane is one of just three players to have featured in every Champions League game so far for the Reds during this campaign and Milner is a man the manager relies on to rouse his charges.

Despite Klopp facing more potential difficulties of losing any players, having seen his squad depleted by injuries so far this term, Liverpool will no doubt battle as hard as they can in order to progress into the semi-finals for the third time in just four years.
