Four Leeds United transfer links Victor Orta should ignore as rumour mill accelerates

Leeds United are already being used in the transfer market.

The Whites are keen to bolster their squad this summer but as the ever-swirling rumour mill heads into overdrive as we enter June, there are plenty of red herrings.

It's no secret that Leeds are looking to sign a left-back and an attacking midfielder to further strengthen Marcelo Bielsa 's options.

However, within 'silly season' comes agent talk, using Leeds, and other clubs, to attract a bidding war and drive up interest in their client.

Victor Orta's meticulous planning produced the goods in the last summer window, though a quality-over-quantity approach will be stressed further 12 months later.

With that in mind, LeedsLive look at several names linked with Leeds that just don't quite fit the bill.

Michy Batshuayi - Chelsea

Chelsea are looking to move Batshuayi on this summer after a series of failed loans.

There will be interest in the Belgian striker, though finding a buyer willing to meet the Blues' £10million valuation and his wage demands won't be easy.

It's quite transparent, then, why Leeds would be mentioned in the conversation. Batshuayi has previous with Bielsa after the pair worked together at Marseille.

But, realistically, where would he play? Leeds have Patrick Bamford as their established number nine, with Tyler Roberts and Rodrigo Moreno as able to deputies in that position.

Bathsuayi can only play one position, unlike Rodrigo and Roberts, which makes this rumour a non-starter.

Harry Wilson - Liverpool

After a relatively underwhelming season in the Championship with Cardiff City, Wilson's stock is at an all-time low.

It'll be difficult for Michael Edwards to shift him on for the £20million figure that they were hoping to receive last summer.

Wilson was heavily linked 12 months ago but Leeds should have no interest in reviving a deal.

The Welshman's flashes of quality are too few and far between to command a place in the squad of a team upwardly challenging the top half of the Premier League table.

Leeds don't need to buy a winger, excluding a permanent deal for Harrison, and should only pursue one if it's an opportunity too good to refuse.

Emiliano Buendia - Norwich City

This is a tough one. There's no doubting that Bunedia is quality and a Premier League player in waiting.

However, Norwich have a strong negotiating hand. They're back in the Premier League, Buendia is tied down and the player is unlikely to seriously agitate for a move.

Arsenal and Aston Villa have lodged £30million offers but the Canaries will hold out for their £40million asking price.

For that level of investment, out wide is not a level of the pitch that Leeds can justify that degree of investment. That money could be better spent elsewhere, as good as Buendia might be.

Borna Sosa - Stuttgart

Whilst Leeds want to sign a left-back, finding the right man is essential.

Stade Brest's Romain Perraud is a front-runner, while Javi Galan and Ajax's Nicolas Tagliafico are also supposed contender to fill the gap.

Sosa too has been linked with a £20million switch but at the age of 29, he would represent a signing with little sell-on value.

Plus, Sosa operates as a wing-back at Stuttgart, bolstering his offensive numbers, and whilst Leeds' full-backs are made to attack, Sosa essentially operates as a winger.

Considering the price, tactical fit and age, there are better options on the market.
