BENGALURU: Chief minister Basavaraj Bommai said construction work on the four-lane Satellite Town Ring Road connecting Dobbspet and Hosur will start in six months.
Bommai met Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari in Delhi on Wednesday and held discussions about the project. “Some issues pertaining to land acquisition were sorted out. The minister has agreed to speed up the project,” he said, adding if implemented, the 42km project will decongest half of Bengaluru. The Centre has taken it up under its Bharatmala project. While the state has to bear 30 per cent of the cost towards land acquisition, the Centre will pay for construction.
Gadkari also promised to expedite the ongoing four-lane work on Shiradi Ghat road from Hassan to Marenahalli and Addahole to BC Road, the CM said, adding the Union minister responded positively to the state’s request for construction of a tunnel bypass to the Ghat. “The tunnel project will help ease traffic disruption on the existing highway stretch due to landslides during monsoon,” Bommai said.
The CM also met Union minister of state for skill development and entrepreneurship and electronics and information technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar and sought the Centre’s support for the electronic manufacturing cluster the state is planning to develop between Bengaluru and Kolar.
