Four killers held, family performs last rites

JAMSHEDPUR: The mortal remains of Manpreet Singh (22) was cremated on Saturday. His relatives were adamant on not cremeating the body, till the five accused were arrested.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) M Tamil Vanan on Friday said the four accused — Rahul Singh, Akshay Singh, Naveen Singh, and Gaurav Gupta — were arrested. The hunt for Pooran Chaudhary and other unidentified accused was on.

Satisfied with the police's action, Manpreet's bereaved parents Harjinder Singh and Soni Kaur allowed the police to proceed with the postmortem of the body on Saturday. Subsequently, the last rites were performed at Bhuyandih crematorium.

Manpreet was shot dead at Shiv Singh Bagan residence under Sidhgora police station area on Wednesday.

The SSP said preliminary investigation revealed that the assailants had gunned down Manpreet to establish their control over the gang.

Notably, Manpreet, an accused in the 2021 firing incident of Bhalubasa area in Jamshedpur, had arrived in the city from Punjab to appear before the court in connection with the hearing of the case on Wednesday.
