Five killed in nightclub shooting with seven injured as terrified revellers flee

Five people have died in a nightclub shooting, with seven people injured as terrified revellers rushed to safety.

The tragedy unfolded in Panama City, Panama, authorities have confirmed.

Video from inside the club shows a performer onstage as shots ring out, with people seen ducking and running towards the exits.

Police are investigating the shooting, which happened in the Santa Ana district of the city.

The government posted on Twitter : "Homicide and Femicide Section of the Metropolitan Prosecutor's Office began investigations for homicide and attempted homicide, after events that occurred in a nightclub located in Santa Ana and in the Guna Nega sector."

Radio Panama reported in the aftermath of the shooting: "Preliminary reports indicate that there are several deaths and injuries."

The Espacio Panama restaurant was packed with customers enjoying a rumba night when the shooting happened, Nocotias VIP reports.

Police told Telemetro Reporta that the shooting "was due to a war between gangs".

Two people were subsequently arrested, the news outlet reported.
