KARNAL: Four persons including two women were killed while 14 others sustained injuries when the pickup they were traveling in was hit by a speeding truck near Rishpur village in Sanaoli of Panipat district early on Saturday morning.
Police said that the passengers were on their way to Haridwar when the accident occurred.
The deceased have been identified as Kanta and Munni of Kamach Khera village, Mohit of Madanpur village in Hisar and Ashwini of Lajwana village in Jind.
Roshan, Sanjay (an Sarpanch of Kamach Khera), Usha, Bala, Vimala, Ravi, Sajjan, Rakesh, Ajay, Dhoop Singh, Asha, Sharda, Atul, all residents of Kamach Khera village, and Pardeep of Sahu Uklana village in Hisar, were injured in the mishap.
Police said that they were going to Haridwar to have a dip in Holy Ganga river on the occasion of Purnima. When they reached near Rishpur village on Sanaoli bypass, a tyre of their vehicle got punctured. When they were replacing the tyre, a speeding truck coming from Panipat side hit their vehicle, leaving them badly injured.
A police team reached the spot and started the investigation.
The injured were taken to hospital where Kanta, Munni, Mohit and Ashwini were declared brought dead.
Sources said that five injured were referred to the PGIMS Rohtak due to their critical condition.
Mahabir Singh, SHO, Sanoli police station said that a case has been registered against the truck driver under section 279, 304A and 337 of the Indian Penal Code. The bodies have been handed over to the family members after the post mortem examination. The investigation is on.
