Four injured after light plane flips on landing

Four people have been pulled from the wreckage of a light plane after it flipped upon landing at Caloundra Airport on Queensland's Sunshine Coast.

The Queensland Police Service said it appeared "the plane had a rough landing on the runway" about noon.

Queensland Ambulance Service's senior operations supervisor Kristy McAlister said the pilot and a passenger were trapped in the wreckage for over an hour.

"The two patients that were entrapped were so for a significant period of time — it took approximately an hour and 10 minutes for the first patient to be released and considerably longer for the second patient," she said.

All four people have been removed from the plane, with two — including the 49-year-old male pilot — sustaining serious injuries.

The pilot suffered multiple trauma injuries to his legs, chest and head and was airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital for treatment.

The critically injured passenger suffered leg injuries and was taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital, along with the two other passengers.
