Four in hospital after serious multi-vehicle crash near Llanelli which left car on its side

Four people were taken to hospital after a serious crash which saw firefighters cut the roof off a car in Carmarthenshire.

The four-car collision happened at around 6.15pm on Tuesday night on the A476 between Llanelli and Tumble.

Police, firefighters, paramedics in three ambulance vehicles and a volunteer doctor all attended the scene of the crash, and a section of the road was closed in both directions for more than three hours.

One of the cars involved was on its side and the roof of one of the vehicles had to be totally removed as people were trapped inside.

Police said several people were injured - including one woman who sustained a head injury - and four people were taken to Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen.

Firefighters used specialist cutting equipment, oxygen therapy, thermal imaging equipment, a long board and lighting before leaving the scene shortly before 9pm.

The extent of the injuries suffered are not known, but police said they were not thought to be life-threatening.
