Four in 10 Remainers tell their children to 'never kiss a... Leaver'

Future historians will look back on the Brexit debacle and undoubtedly view it as one of the most dividing times in Britain's history.

Parliament is split, the country is split, there is a huge generational split and hate crimes are on the increase.

Now, a new YouGov poll has revealed four out of ten Remainers would tell their children to "never kiss a... Leaver".

Such is the antipathy towards the opposite side of the Brexit debate, 40 per cent of people would want their child to have no affectionate connection with them.

It has split families and it appears to be stopping potential new families forming with couples on either side of the debate.

And 34 per cent of Remainers also said they would be upset if their child married a Leaver.

Only 11 per cent of Leavers said they would be upset if their child married a Remainer.

Moreover, less than half of Remainers would even consider dating a Leaver if they were single.

The divide in politics also extends into Labour and Conservative supporters.

The poll also revealed 34 per cent of Labour supporters would be upset if their child married a Conservative.

This figure has increased by six per cent since 2016 when the questions were last put to the public.

Meanwhile, 13 per cent of Conservatives would be upset if their child married a Labour supporter.

The figures demonstrate that Conservatives and Leavers are more open to bridging the political divide and that politics in general has never been more divided.
