Four fire engines sent to tackle blaze at Kirkby industrial park

Four fire engines were sent out to tackle a fire on a Kirkby industrial park this morning.

The crews were called to an industrial unit blaze at Academy Business Park in Lees Road on the Knowsley Industrial Park just after 4.30am to find a 20m x 20m corrugated unit well alight. They fought the fire with high-pressure hose-reel jets externally while gaining access to the building's interior using an angle grinder.

The firefighters from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service quickly gained access to the building and a team of two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered to fight the fire with a high-pressure hose reel jet.

The crews made swift progress and extinguished the fire in less than an hour before venting the building using fans.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue service said: "Fire has now been extinguished after rapid and efficient work by firefighters."
