Four Fallowfield students fined under coronavirus rules for organising an 'after the pub party'

Four students in Fallowfield have been fined by the police after organising an 'after the pub party'.

Each student was handed a £100 fixed penalty notice from officers for not adhering to social distancing guidelines.

A picture of a bin full of empty cans of lager was posted on the GMP Fallowfield Facebook page on Monday.

Alongside the photo, an officer wrote: "Day two of university life.

"Four students in Fallowfield each received a £100 Covid Fixed Penalty fine for organising an 'After the Pub' party and not adhering to Government guidelines."

Social gatherings of more than six people are currently banned in England under coronavirus laws.

Students should only socialise in their 'bubble' - the people they live with in their halls or houses - and should not mix with other groups.

But the University of Manchester  has warned that their students could be made subject to a curfew following a 'significant' number of coronavirus breaches.

Bosses say 'active consideration' is now being given to the introduction of a curfew across halls, or other restrictive measures.

In an email sent to students, seen by  The Mancunian  and verified by the M.E.N, leaders said breaches of the restrictions could lead to a removal from halls or academic courses.

"We have already witnessed serious breaches of Covid regulations within halls both indoors and outdoors," the email said.

"Despite repeated reminders and warnings, there were further significant breaches yesterday and overnight, which resulted in the attendance of large numbers of university security staff, together with GMP.

"As a result of this, active consideration is being given to introducing a curfew across all Halls and/or other restrictive measures."
