Four Edinburgh restaurants close immediately after positive staff Covid cases

Four more Edinburgh businesses have been forced to close their doors temporarily after staff members tested positive for coronavirus.

The Ox on Broughton Street, The Roseleaf in Leith and Elio's on George Street shared the news on their respective Instagram pages yesterday. A fourth, One Canonmills, closed temporarily, but following negative results from all staff have reopened this weekend.

The Ox wrote that they had been advised to close immediately by Track and Trace after a member of staff tested positive for the virus. They said: "Covid update! Sadly, we’ve decided to close until the Saturday 10th July.

"We’ve been advised to do this by Track and Trace incase the virus is incubated in one of us.

"All staff will be tested again before we open. If you had a booking, you should have heard from us, otherwise we are deeply sorry that we’ve had to close. We hope to see you all on the other side."

The Roseleaf Bar and Cafe at the Shore have also closed their doors after a staff member caught Covid, describing their temporary closure as a 'precaution.'

The Leith bar wrote on Instagram: "One of our staff members has unfortunately caught COVID so we are fully shutting as a precaution to get everyone tested.

"We are following guidelines and isolating most of our staff for 10 days so we will remain closed and reopen on Friday the 9th of July. Stay safe people and see you soon."

George Street cocktail bar Elio's has also closed for the foreseeable future, with the team writing online: "Hi everyone, we have to share the unfortunate news with you that we have had a staff member test positive for Covid-19 and have made the decision to close to allow our other staff to be tested and to do a deep and thorough clean to make sure that Elio’s is safe for your return in due course.

"As we have since being able to reopen, we put the safety of our incredible customers and staff at the top of the priority list and so, whilst we do this with a heavy heart, we know that it is the right thing to do. We’ll share more details of our reopening date shortly as we liaise with the relevant authorities on the proper procedure."

Finally, gastropub One Canonmills has also made the responsible decision to close - although the member of staff who tested positive at the site hasn't 'been at work for a week'. The venue shared a video of the premises being deep-cleaned and sprayed by Daybreak Scotland and has now reopened.

The news comes after figures showed that one in 250 people in Scotland currently have coronavirus.
