Four illegal workers have been discovered following raids on nail bars across West Dunbartonshire.
Police Scotland teamed up withe the Home Office Immigration Enforcement in a joint operation in Dumbarton and Clydebank yesterday (Thursday).
Immigration checks at Five Star Nails and Spa in Dumbarton High Street identified a 42-year-old woman from Vietnam who had entered the UK illegally and had no permission to work. She must report to Immigration Enforcement regularly while her case is progressed.
The business was served civil penalty referral notices warning that a financial penalty of up to £20,000 per illegal worker found will be imposed unless the employer can demonstrate that appropriate right-to-work document checks were carried out, such as seeing a passport or Home Office document confirming permission to work.
In Clydebank, immigration checks at Hollywood Nail Spa in Alexander Street identified a 39-year-old man from Vietnam who had entered the UK illegally and had no permission to work. He was detained pending his removal from the UK.
And At Vintage Hair/USA Nails in Carintha Way, Clydebank, checks found two Vietnamese men, aged 22 and 23, who had entered the UK illegally and had no permission to work. They must also both report regularly to Immigration Enforcement while their cases are dealt with.
The Home Office confirmed the details today (Friday).
Detective Inspector Ogilvie Ross said: “Police and partners conducted a joint operation in the Dumbarton and Clydebank areas on Thursday, November 14.
"Three premises were visited where four people were found to be working illegally. They were passed into the care of the Home Office.
"A fifth person was arrested for an outstanding warrant.”
