Four dead in Vienna terror gun attack by 'IS sympathiser'

A fourth person has died following a shooting in Vienna last night, it has been confirmed.

Austrian Interior Minister Karl Nehammer said that two men and two woman have died from their injuries and that he believes the shooter had Islamist links.

He told the media: "The attacker sympathised with the militant terrorist group IS."

The suspected attacker was carrying an assault rifle and a fake suicide vest. He was also shot and killed by police during the attack.

There is an ongoing investigation to establish the exact links to IS and whether further attackers may be on the run.

It is thought that 15 people were injured in the attack near the city’s main synagogue, one of those was a police officer.

The attacker shot at people dining and drinking in bars and restaurants.

Rabbi Schlomo Hofmeister said he saw at least one person shoot at people sitting outside bars in the street below his window near the city's main synagogue.

He said: "They were shooting at least 100 rounds just outside our building

"All these bars have tables outside. This evening is the last evening before the lockdown."
