Four-day holiday declared for New Year

Thailand will have a four-day break at the end of next month so revellers can relax and celebrate the New Year.

The cabinet announced Tuesday the holiday will run from Dec 30 to Jan 2.

"By tradition, if annual holidays fall on weekends, additional days are added," said Lt Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd, the government spokesman.

The four-day break comes despite Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha reportedly telling the cabinet he was not sure whether the extra days would spell "good news" for employers.
