Four Covid symptoms being identified in fully vaccinated people who catch the virus

Latest figures have shown that over 33 million people have now received both doses of their Coronavirus vaccine - while more than 45 million have received their first dose.

The vaccine rollout has helped break the link between number of cases and serious hospitalisations - and the government has identified this as a key factor as to why they still remain confident all remaining lockdown restrictions can be eased on July 19.

As MirrorOnline reports, although the vaccine provides greater protection, it is still possible to contract and pass on the virus - so if you test positive after being fully vaccinated, you will still need to self-isolate.

And research conducted by the ZOE Covid Symptom study showed that fully vaccinated people testing positive for Coronavirus were reporting different symptoms to the mains ones.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the main signs that you might have contracted Covid have been a high temperature, a new, continuous cough and a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste.

But researchers have said that double jabbed Brits are mainly reporting that they experienced the following symptoms:

- Headache

- Runny nose

- Sneezing

- Sore throat

They wrote in the study: "Generally, we saw similar symptoms of Covid-19 being reported overall in the app by people who had and hadn’t been vaccinated.

"However, fewer symptoms were reported over a shorter period of time by those who had already had a jab, suggesting that they were falling less seriously ill and getting better more quickly."

They added: "Curiously, we noticed that people who had been vaccinated and then tested positive for COVID-19 were more likely to report sneezing as a symptom compared with those without a jab."

They urged anyone who might experience sneezing after getting a jab to get tested for Covid-19 to make sure they have not contracted the virus.

People who contracted Covid after getting just one dose of a vaccine reported the same four symptoms, plus a persistent cough.

It comes as Health Secretary Sajid Javid announced that rules on self-isolation are being eased for the fully vaccinated and under-18s.

People in those categories who have come into contact with a coronavirus case will not need to shut themselves away for the 10-day isolation period once the change comes into force on August 1.

The Health Secretary's announcement follows Boris Johnson's decision to tear up England's coronavirus regulations at Step 4 of the road map, expected on July 19.

Mr Javid told MPs that from August 16, anyone who is a close contact of a positive case will no longer have to self-isolate if they have received two doses of a vaccine and have given the second jab a fortnight to take effect.

Mr Javid said: "As we make this change we will be drawing on the huge capacity we have built for testing and sequencing and advising close contacts who are fully vaccinated to take a PCR test as soon as possible so they can get certainty about their condition."

Anyone who tests positive will have to self-isolate, regardless of their vaccination status.

Mr Javid added: "This new approach means that we can manage the virus in a way that is proportionate to the pandemic while maintaining the freedoms that are so important to us all."

As under-18s are not routinely jabbed, a similar exemption from self-isolation rules will be extended to them.

The Health Secretary said: "Anyone under the age of 18 who is a close contact of a positive case will no longer have to self-isolate.

"Instead they will be given advice about whether they should get tested, dependent on their age, and will need to self-isolate only if they test positive."
