Four children injured after car crashes into nursery

A BMW crashed into a Philadelphia day care on Thursday afternoon when children were napping. Four children were taken to the hospital, with one seriously injured ( 6ABC Philadelphia )

Four children were hurt after a BMW rammed into their Pennsylvania day care, with one child suffering serious injuries.

There were 17 children ages three to four years old in the Children of America day care's nap room in Bucks County when the car crashed into it at 1:30pm on Thursday, police said.

Most of those 17 children were napping in the room at the time, and a total of 79 children were in the day care that day.

When the vehicle crashed through the front window it went another 40 to 50 feet until it hit the back wall of the classroom, according to a statement from the Bucks County District Attorney's Office.

The four injured children were taken to Abington Hospital while the other children were reunited with their parents after the crash.

Their current conditions have not been released.

Information about the name of the driver has also not been released by police.

Investigators did reveal the driver was a woman from Philadelphia who is 50 to 60 years old. She was working as a delivery driver at the time of the crash and had no connection to the day care.

The driver suffered minor injuries and was also taken to the hospital.

No charges have been announced, and authorities said the woman was cooperating with police to determine the cause of the crash.

Children of America's chairman, Jim Perretty, said the company's "main concern is the well-being of our children, their families and our staff," according to NBC News

Staff are working with police to "determine exactly what happened."
