Four Chelsea players who need to impress in order to get January transfer move

While Chelsea might not be spending too much money in January, they might well be looking to offload some of their squad members.

The Blues were unable to get rid of players as easily as they were able to sign them, meaning that Frank Lampard has a larger than needed squad.

It doesn't seem like long ago that the summer transfer window closed, but a new one is just around the corner with the January transfer window opening soon.

Those players who are on the fringes of the squad will be hoping for a bit of game time between now and January so that potential suitors might take them on.

Chelsea injury list ahead of Newcastle clash

With the European Championships also next summer, those players will be keen to impress and get the best game time.

But who are the players looking to impress?

Marcos Alonso

He was the main man under Antonio Conte, but Marcos Alonso has found it increasingly more difficult to get a spot in the Chelsea team.

Ben Chilwell has been superb and is now the likely starter for the rest of the campaign, with Alonso only likely to get a spot if there is an injury.

The 29-year-old could get some game time should there be any injuries, however that is the only chance he will feature.

If he does get a shot then he will need to take his opportunities.

Antonio Rudiger

The Germany international looked like he wouldn't even be part of the first team this season, but the move away from Chelsea in the summer never happened.

Rudiger is likely to be the back-up centre-back for now, but if there is a suitor then the Blues will look to move him on in January.

The 27-year-old is not looking like he will be part of the long-term plans and he will be keen to play and show what he can do.

Emerson Palmieri

Like Alonso, Emerson has slipped down the pecking order with Chilwell coming into the club, but he has more of a chance to play if there is an injury.

The Italy international will be really keen to impress to not just get a move but to get a spot at the summer's Euros.

The 26-year-old has struggled to get real game time at the Blues, but if he gets the chance then he needs to take it.

Oliver Giroud

There is no doubt that Olivier Giroud still has a lot to give, but it's also clear he has slipped down the pecking order of forwards.

The Frenchman has played just 60 minutes of action in the Premier League and Champions League combined, with Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham impressing.

France head coach Didier Deschamps has all but told the striker he needs to leave to play for him in the Euros, and that is going to be a massive incentive for Giroud to move on.
