A lane has been blocked on the A167 Central Motorway in Newcastle city centre after four cars collided.
The multi-vehicle crash happened near to the slip road onto the A193 New Bridge Street roundabout next to the Northumbria University city centre campus.
One lane has been closed southbound with police called to the scene at 12.40pm on Saturday.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said that recovery is on the way and those in the car suffered "minor injuries only".
Traffic heading towards the Tyne Bridge is able to get past using the second lane but there are delays on the road.
Tailbacks have been forming back to the A1058 Jesmond Road.
Driving conditions are expected to be hazardous at times this weekend with Storm Dennis bringing strong winds and heavy rain across Saturday and Sunday.
