Four car crash near Glasgow sees traffic queued back for five miles

A four-vehicle smash has caused miles of queued traffic on the M80 this morning near Cumbernauld.

The accident took place at the central reservation of the M80 northbound between Junctions 5 and 6 around 7.30am this morning, prompting the arrival of police and Scotland TranServ's Trunk Roads Incident Support Unit (TRISS).

Traffic has queued back to Junction 4 as a result, with reports confirming delays of 20 minutes for drivers using the road.

An alert on Traffic information site INRIX reads: "Queueing traffic for five miles due to accident, now on the hard shoulder on M80 Northbound at J6 A8011 (Cumbernauld Old Inns Junction). Congestion to J4 (Westfield). Travel time is 20 minutes."

Meanwhile traffic is queued on the M73 M73 Northbound due to an accident which took place between Junction 2 of the M8 (Baillieston) and Junction 2A Auldyards Road (Gartcosh / Muirhead).

Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.
