Emergency services are currently attending a four vehicle crash between Holmston and the Whitletts roundabout in Ayr.
Rush hour traffic has ground to a standstill following this morning’s incident.
Some commuters are facing a 20-minute delay to their journeys.
One motorist said: “Ayr is in gridlock as the traffic is backed up.”
Holmston Road is said to be “chockablock” as cars await bumper to bumper.
Those commuting to Ayr are encouraged to turn off at Sandyford Toll roundabout and go round via Mossblown and Annbank.
