A set of four books by art historian Alka Pande on the kama traditions in Indian art were launched at an event in New Delhi on October 10, 2022. The opening address at the function was given by Ravi Singh, Publisher and co-founder-- Speaking Tiger. This was followed by the unveiling of the four books by H.E. Mr. André Aranha Corrêa do Lago, Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil.
Applauding the books in his address, H.E. Mr. André Aranha Corrêa do Lago, Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil said in a statement, "Alka Pande has proved extraordinary talent in promoting Indian art in all its forms. In Brazil also we have enormous pride in the diversity of our culture. I was very impressed by the layers of literary content in eroticism that Alka has brought out."
The four books in the Kama traditions in Indian art series are, namely: 'Al Fresco Kama: Love Under the Open Sky', 'Yoga and Kama: The Acrobatics of Love', 'The Nayika and Kama: She Takes Her Pleasure', and 'The Adulterer and Kama: The Seduction of Illicit Love'. They are published by Speaking Tiger.
Commenting on writing these book, author Alka Pande said, "The set of four exquisite books are a delight to hold and a pleasure to read. They have been done celebrating the aesthetics of the erotic which is unique to India. These books stem out of my ongoing research on Indian Aesthetics. I have explored the mother of all erotic Indian texts— the Kamasutra— through Indian art history images and Sanskrit prose and poetry."
The book launch event was hosted by the publisher in association with the Oxford Bookstore Art Book Prize.
The book launch also included presentations by author Alka Pande, and photographer-artist Bandeep Singh. It concluded with a beautiful performance by Purva Dhanashree, Vilasini Natyam Danseuse.
