Four Arsenal stars who could be swapped to fund transfer for Man City's Raheem Sterling

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Manchester City's Raheem Sterling as they look to take advantage of his uncertain future.

The winger is still in discussions with the Premier League champions regarding a new deal.

Sterling's contract expires in just over 18 months but with a start no longer guaranteed there have been rumours of a move away.

The 26-year-old worked with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta for more than three years at the Etihad and has spoken positively about him in the past.

This summer saw the Gunners bring in a host of new faces as the club continue to reshape their squad.

Adding Sterling would be a major statement by Arsenal given his impressive scoring record over the past four years and they are keeping tabs on the England man, reports the Daily Star.

A swap deal may tempt City further and Arteta has a host of players who may interest Pep Guardiola.

We take a look at four.

Gabriel Martinelli

The young striker has buckets of potential having moved to the Emirates in 2019.

His has played more of a squad role given the attacking quality available to Arteta.

Guardiola's coaching ability is well publicised and the chance of working under the Catalan may appeal to Martinelli.

The Brazilian's work rate and desire has endeared him to the Emirates crowd, especially in periods where the team has lacked form.

That, coupled with his obvious quality, means he has the attributes to excel at City.

Alexandre Lacazette

Since moving to north London in 2017 the Frenchman has toiled to make the centre-forward role his own to mixed success.

Often used from the bench, Lacazette has previously opened up on his struggles at Arsenal.

His contract continues to wind down and he was linked with a move away last summer.

City's need for a striker is no secret and, when given a regular run as a starter, Lacazette has proven his appetite for goals.

He scored 37 in his final year at Lyon, while 18 is his best haul at Arsenal.

William Saliba

Another young player Guardiola may relish the opportunity to work with.

Something of a conundrum, in his his native France Saliba is highly-rated and continues to produce impressive performances.

Since signing for Arsenal, where he's yet to make an appearance, he's been loaned back to St Etienne and then Nice and now Marseille.

For whatever reason, Arteta doesn't seem to fancy the 20-year-old and may yet cut his losses.

City have settled on Aymeric Laporte and Ruben Dias as a defensive pairing so far this season but having a youngster in the background may appeal to Guardiola.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

It would be a bold move for Arsenal to get rid of their captain and leading marksman.

Nevertheless, there are some who feel Aubameyang has not quite been the same since signing a new deal just over a year ago.

Sterling, whilst not being a centre forward, has been prolific like the Gabon international so, in terms of numbers, a trade may not be overly harming for either side.

Aubameyang would also appeal to City's need to add a striker. Sterling though is six years the Arsenal star's junior.
