Arsenal are set to let a number of fringe players depart this month, as Mikel Arteta looks to trim his squad.
The departures could raise significant funds for Arteta also, whether to do business during the January transfer window or to simply bring in cash after last summer's major outlay.
The Gunners have also recalled a young forward from a loan spell early amid their own striking issues, most notably with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, now heading to the Africa Cup of Nations.
Also, Arsenal's Carabao Cup semi-final clash with Liverpool on Thursday night has been thrown into doubt following a bombshell announcement.

Liverpool clash in doubt
Liverpool have been hit by another coronavirus outbreak, which has thrown their Thursday night Carabao Cup semi-final tie against Arsenal into doubt.
Jurgen Klopp's squad has already been struck by the absences of Virgil van Dijk, Fabinho, Curtis Jones and Thiago due to positive Covid tests in recent weeks, with the manager himself also missing last weekend's Premier League clash with Chelsea.
Alisson Becker, Roberto Firmino and Joel Matip were also ruled out of the match at Stamford Bridge due to suspected positive tests as assistant manager Pep Ljinders took charge of the Reds.
And reports have suggested their Monday afternoon training session was cancelled with the Reds said to be fearful they won't be able to play on Thursday.
Fresh striker option emerges
Arsenal have recalled young striker Nikolaj Moller early from his loan spell at German outfit Viktoria Koln.
The 19-year-old Swedish striker impressed while in Germany leading to Arsenal activating a recall clause to bring him back earlier than expected.
He had been due to spend the full season out on loan but will now continue his development back in north London – and could even provide Mikel Arteta with another option up front.
It comes as Arteta faces a mounting crisis with his forward line as ex-club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been exiled, while both Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah could both leave for nothing in a matter of months with their contracts due to expire this summer.
Four stars 'wanted' for Premier League switch
Newly-rich Newcastle United could swoop for four Arsenal stars this month as they look to rise out of their current relegation dogfight.
The Magpies became the richest club in world football following their takeover by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund in October but have struggled in the Premier League so far this season.
Following Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's exile from the first team, Eddie Howe's side have approached Arsenal regarding a bid for the forward – and they could also move for three other Gunners stars as well.
