(Picture: Getty Images)Police made four arrests for Covid-19 rule breaches after hundreds of young people mobbed Harrods , as visitors packed central London on the first weekend after lockdown.
The group swooped on the luxury store in Knightsbridge on Saturday afternoon, attempting to enter and crowding together in the streets outside.
Most were not wearing face masks and ignored social distancing guidelines.
They tried to get into the store resulting in clashes with security guards. Police were called and dispersed the crowd while making the arrests for affray and covid rule breaches.
Twitter users criticised the group for defying the regulations,
Bob tweeted: “No wonder covid is spreading spread! Selfish, idiotic kids with no brains or thoughts for others!”
Kevin Mitson wrote: “People in London are totally stupid and that’s a fact.”
Richard Smith tweeted: “Can you believe these people? If brains were a virus they would be the healthiest people on earth, just waiting for an accident to happen.”
JSurteesChapman wrote: “They were shouting and running around the store no one wearing a face mask. Lots of police outside trying to move them on.”
In a statement, Met police said: "Police were called at around 13:09hrs on Saturday, 5 December to reports of a large group of people attempting to enter a shop in Brompton Road, SW1.
'Four males were arrested in total - two for affray, one for breach of Covid regulations, and another for a public order offence and breach of Covid regulations. The crowd have since dispersed."
The West End saw crowds forming on the first weekend after lockdown with pictures showing a packed Covent Garden and Soho.
Central London shopping streets were also very busy on Saturday , in a big boost to West End traders.
Crowds in Soho stopped to listen to buskers while restaurants and bars were also busy.
