LUCKNOW: A team of STF nabbed four members of a gang involved in cloning the ATM cards of innocent people and withdrawing money from Eldeco Trisection in Malhaur under Chinhat police station area on Monday.
Those arrested were identified as Ravi Yadav aka Bheem, Alok Kumar aka Bhole, Umesh Yadav and Amit Kumar Pandey, all Pratapgarh district.
The team recovered 9 ATM cards, two mobile phones and a car from the miscreants who were arrested on a tip off from an informer.
ASP STF Vishal Vikram Singh said they were investigating the crime cases in which the miscreants had duped several persons by withdrawing money from their bank accounts after cloning their ATM cards which they used to get by tricking the victims. “A team worked in the case and we nabbed the miscreants on information. They owned up their crime,” he said.
“The accused confessed to their crime and disclosed that they used to target a victim who was less informed about the use of ATM cards and chose an ATM booth where security guards are not deployed or where the crowd was very low in the city. As per their modus operandi, they used to stand exactly behind a target and used to give them a cloned ATM in the name of help in withdrawing the money. They used to see the PIN code that the victim was entering in the machine to withdraw the money and used this PIN to withdraw the money from ATM booths in other cities/ states,” said Singh.
The accused Umesh and Alok are named in 10 and 11 cases of fraud from different districts while Ravi was named in four cases of fraud and Amit Pandey in two cases of fraud from different districts.
