Four arrested as ‘gun found in car’ after failed shop break-in

Police made four arrests after a failed break-in to a shop in a south London high street.

Officers said they found a gun in their suspected getaway car after being called to a bungled burglary at 2am on Monday.

The suspects reportedly fled the scene when they couldn’t break into the shop in Charlton Church Lane.

They were found by officers yards away in neighbouring Nadine Street.

Four people were arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and attempted burglary.

A Met spokesman said: “Police were called to Charlton Church Lane following reports that a group were trying to break into a shop.

“At 2.02am officers stopped a car in nearby Nadine Street. Inside the car they found a firearm.

“They remain in custody.”

A cordon is in place in Charlton Church Lane while further enquiries are carried out.
