Four arrested and gun found in car after dramatic stop by police on city street

Four men were arrested after a dramatic stop by police in the middle of a city street.

A large police scene was put in place on Penny Lane, in Mossley Hill , shortly before 7pm on Monday night after a car was stopped and searched by officers.

During the search, officers found what is believed to be a gun and a quantity of Class A drugs before arresting the driver and three men who were travelling in the car.

Pictures taken at the scene show a police cordon close to Penny Lane Wine Bar, a damaged Ford Focus and a number of police cars.

The car, which officers stopped, was photographed with significant damage to the front and side, before a recovery vehicle arrived on the street to remove it.

The four men, all in their 20s, were arrested for firearm offences and were taken to a police station for questioning.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police told the ECHO : "Officers from Merseyside Police, have arrested four men on suspicion of firearms offences after stopping a car in Mossley Hill this evening (Monday, 9 December 2019).

"Officers stopped a Ford Focus at about 6.50pm and during a search of the car they found what is believed to be a firearm and a small quantity of what is believed to be a Class A drug.

"The four occupants of the car - a 28-year old man from Edge Hill ; a 24-year-old man from Roby ; a 29-year-old man from Tuebrook and a 27-year-old man from Speke , have been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with criminal intent and have been taken to a police station where they will be questioned by detectives."
