Four arrested after Rangers fans clash with Danish police outside Brondby Stadium

Danish police have arrested four people after Rangers fans clashed with cops outside Brondby Stadium.

Officers have accused fans of causing the violence after a brawl broke out in Copenhagn last night.

Thousands of fans had travelled from Scotland to watch the Europa League clash between the Light Blues and the Danish side.

Detectives have blamed the 'commotion' on Rangers fans allegedly showing up without proper tickets forcing cops to 'pull and use poles' on supporters.

After the match, police claim supporters then tried to engage Brondby fans before police got involved.

The four arrested in connection were charged with 'ordinary violence or violence against the police.'

A spokesman for West Copenhagen Police said: "In connection with the match, there have been a few episodes between football fans and the police.

"Before the match, a group of Rangers fans tried to enter Brøndby Stadion, even though they had not regulated a ticket.

"It caused less commotion at the entrance to the away section of the stadium and the police had to pull and use poles.

"After the match, there were a few episodes where rioters tried to get over to the opponent's fans, which was prevented by the police.

"A total of four people were arrested in connection with the fight.

"They are charged with ordinary violence or violence against the police.

"As several of them are non-EU citizens, the prosecution is now assessing whether there should be a production in constitutional interrogation."

The violence had been captured by supporters on video.

The Danish officers, clad in helmets, gloves and body armour can be seen with batons as supporters shout their objections.

In the next moment, kicks and pushes seem to be aimed at the cops before a supporter falls to the ground and is hit with the truncheons while on his knees.

He falls to his back while police gather around and appear to hit him more.

Rangers supporters shout and swear and the next moments of the footage are unclear.

In the next second many of the fans raise their hands in the air in an apparent sign of surrender to the police.

One disabled fan told the Record how he had 'never been so scared in his life' during the flare up of violence and accused police of 'leathering kids and old men'.

The amputee with one leg, said the police had charged and attacked everyone in their path while the man accompanying him was not allowed into the stadium.

And Gers supporter Alan Harris told the Record he had never seen such dramatic scenes in all his time following the Ibrox side across Europe.

He said: "I was not struck by a baton but when you're 71 it's quite terrifying to have riot police right in your face and coming at you with batons drawn.

"This is my 45th away European trip and this is the worst I've ever seen."
