Four areas in Bristol region record rise in Covid-19 cases for second consecutive day

Bristol and its three neighbouring districts have all recorded an increase in coronavirus cases for the second consecutive day.

Six further Bristol patients have been diagnosed with Covid-19 over the last 24 hours, according to the latest figures released by Public Health England today (Thursday, August 27).

This brings our city's total to 1,473.

Six more cases were recorded in South Gloucestershire, which now has 824.

Bath and North East Somerset saw an increase of three, bringing its total to 402.

North Somerset now has 936 following a rise of three.

Across the UK, 330,368 people have now tested positive, an increase of 1,522 in the last 24 hours.

Covid deaths

Neither of Bristol's hospital trusts have recorded a coronavirus-related death since the beginning of July.

The total number of deaths recorded locally stands at 272 since the pandemic began.

Today's figures show 41,477 people have died across the UK - with 12 in the last 24 hours.

Warning ahead of bank holiday weekend

Bristol’s city leaders are urging people to avoid illegal parties, for the sake of their own and their community’s health.

There has been a small but noticeable increase in new cases over the past ten days in our city.

A number of protests and other gatherings of over 30 people without social distancing measures have already taken place in August, according to the council.

This has prompted the city’s Bristol COVID-19 Local Engagement Board to take the unprecedented step of voicing its concerns about gatherings of over 30 people planned to happen this weekend.

These concerns include increased social mixing and a lack of adherence to approved guidance.

Gatherings of particular concern to the LEB include raves, house parties and other get-togethers, where social distancing can’t be maintained.

The risks related to these gatherings include interactions between people travelling to and from meetings, socialising before and afterwards and then passing the infection on to friends and family in the days that follow.
