Four 12-week-old Lurcher puppies were found dumped in a plastic bag close to a river, prompting an urgent RSPCA appeal for information.
The adorable foursome were handed into a vet surgery in Leatherhead, Surrey, after being discovered in a big by the River Mole on Thursday, June 3 shortly before 1pm.
The puppies, two girls and two boys, are now being cared for by RSPCA Millbrook Animal Centre where they will receive "lots of TLC" and treatment for their sarcoptic mange.
Animal rescue officer Chloe Wilson said the pups had been left with bad fur loss because of the scratching related to their mange.
She said: “We believe these poor pups were abandoned in a bag by the river.
"They are suffering from mange which means they are very itchy and have quite severe fur loss.
"These dogs needed urgent veterinary attention but it would appear as though they have callously been abandoned instead.
“If anyone has any information about how these puppies came to be abandoned, or if anyone recognises them, please contact our inspectorate appeal line on 0300 123 8018.”
The puppies have been named Norma, Jean, Bradley and Cooper, and are now getting the care they need at the RSPCA centre in Surrey.
They are not available for rehoming yet but when they are ready to go to a loving new forever home, they will appear on the charity's website at www.rspca.org.uk/findapet.
Earlier this week a dog who was left panting in a car for three hours during the Bank Holiday heatwave while its owners drank in the pub has been freed by police.
The pooch, which appears to be a small terrier breed, was found "gasping for air" by officers who were called to the scene in a car park in Southend, Essex.
Essex Police were forced to smash open the window of the vehicle to rescue the distressed animal on Saturday, when temperatures in the area soared to 20C.
