Foundation of Hearts see huge surge in pledges since SPFL league reconstruction failure confirmed

The Foundation of Hearts has reported a huge surge in pledges as fans react to news that league reconstruction has fallen through.

The Tynecastle club saw their fate finally sealed when the SPFL confirmed plans for a 14-10-10-10 league structure had failed on Monday afternoon.

And with the Jambos now preparing for legal action, and life in Scottish football's second tier, supporters have responded by dipping their hands in their pockets and backing the trust ready to take over the club.

The Foundation of Hearts say that they've had more than 200 new pledges in the last day.

They tweeted: "This was the counter at midnight of new pledges, increased pledges and one-off donations: exactly 200 since yesterday's news. It's continuing this morning. @JamTarts fans are indeed amazing. We've just made an increased monthly payment to the club on your behalf. #pledgeforlife"

The fan group is ready to take control of the Tynecastle club from Ann Budge. The remaining balance of £100,000 required to complete the purchase was paid earlier this year.

The shares were due to be transferred this summer but this has been put on hold due to the coronavirus crisis.

FoH chairman Stuart Wallace told Edinburgh Live last month that he'd like the deal to be concluded before the year is out. He said: "It's not going to be in the next few weeks. More likely the next few months. I've said that I'd like to see it happen in 2020.

"We wanted to have a big celebration when it was completed. What we might need is for that celebration to happen at a later date.."

He added: "The £2.4 million has been settled, and the final instalment of £100,000 was paid earlier this year. We're ready to take control of the club.

"The only thing that has stopped the transfer  is COVID."
