Foster Gillett ramps up Hearts interest as businessman teases 'significant investment'

Foster Gillett remains keen on investing in Hearts despite Ann Budge declaring she'd rejected an offer from the US businessman.

The American, son of former Liverpool supremo George Gillett, is determined to acquire a football club and "invest significantly".

Jambos chief Budge revealed earlier on Friday she'd turned down an approach, stating her intention remains to transfer ownership to fan group the Foundation of Hearts.

But now Gillett, who says he's had no response from the club, has publicly reached out to the Foundation.

He wants to open talks with the group over a "potential investment".

Gillett said in a statement: "To date there has been no response from the club board or Foundation of Hearts.

"No formal offer has been made.

"I would welcome the opportunity to engage with the Foundation of Hearts to explore a potential investment.

"I am looking to acquire a football club with ambitions and I'm looking to invest significantly."

Budge's position on Thursday afternoon was that relegated Hearts do not need any further upheaval amid the immense challenges thrown up by the COVID-19 pandemic.

She told the BBC: "My plan has always been to hand the club over to supporters and nothing has changed.

"Right now, the club needs stability."

The club's future is already uncertain as they await a verdict from fellow SPFL clubs Budge's league reconstruction plan.

The proposal, which would ensure Hearts remain escape relegation to the Championship, will be looked at in a series of divisional meetings next week - starting with Premiership clubs on Monday.
