Foster carers arrested, accused of abuse

NSW Police began investigating after reports three teenage girls in Sydney were abused in care. (AAP)

Two former foster carers have been arrested and charged over the alleged sexual and physical abuse of three girls in their care.

A 79-year-old man and a 63-year-old woman were charged on Monday morning after a police investigation into reports three teenage girls in Sydney's southwest were physically and sexually abused while in care between 2013 and 2020.

A third man, aged 35, was arrested on Thursday evening after further inquiries.

The 79-year-old man faces 13 charges for offences including grooming a child under 14 for unlawful sexual activity, aggravated sexual intercourse with a child between 10 and 14 and concealing a child abuse offence.

The woman was charged with two counts of common assault, two counts of concealing an child abuse offence, using intimidation or violence to unlawfully influence a person, and six other offences.

The woman was refused bail at Liverpool Local Court on Tuesday, but the man was granted strict conditional bail. Both are due to appear before the same court on February 16.

The 35-year-old man is accused of sexually assaulting a young girl who was known to him. He will appear at Campbelltown Local Court on Friday.

The investigations are continuing, NSW Police say.
