Foster Care Fortnight prompts calls for new carers in Halton

New foster carers are being sought to help give a child a loving home.

Foster 4, a joint scheme between Halton, Warrington and Cheshire West and Chester councils, has launched the appeal to mark Foster Care Fortnight, which runs until May 23.

Its '3 Ways' strategy sets out who they are, what they do and three distinct ways residents can get involved, even if fostering is not for them.

There are currently more than 450 households fostering children in the area and Cllr Tom McInerney, Halton Borough Council's executive board member for children, young people and families, said working from home meant becoming a foster carer was now a realistic option for more people.

He said: "Fostering has never been more accessible now that more of us are working from home, take that first step today if you think you can foster.”

He added that even people who were not in the position to take on a child could help out in other ways, even if it was just by raising awareness.

He added: "I’ve watched us all come together during Covid times, and even if fostering isn’t a possibility right now, we want to make it clear how people can still get involved with our service and support local vulnerable children.

"You can make a huge impact and help our community of foster carers grow- perhaps by sharing our social media posts, referring a friend who would make a great foster carer or even offering employment opportunities to our young people."

Anyone interested can read the new strategy and request an information pack at www.foster4.co.uk.
