Forwards pace Pistons over Nuggets, 106-95, for first road win of year

DENVER _ The Detroit Pistons broke through for their first road victory of the season Saturday _ a 106-95 victory over the Denver Nuggets.

Forwards Tobias Harris and Marcus Morris both broke out of shooting slumps combine for 36 points on 16-for-30 shooting to lead the Pistons to their first victory in Denver since 2009.

Harris, who finished with 19 points, knocked down a mid-range jumper with 1:07 remaining to give the Pistons a 103-95 lead and send Nuggets fans to the Pepsi Center exits.

And Morris caught fire in the second half, scoring 15 points after halftime to help the Pistons avoid a winless four-game trip and their first win away from the Palace in six tries.

Andre Drummond finished with 14 points, 12 rebounds and two steals. Jon Leuer scored 14 points off the Pistons bench. He added 10 rebounds. Six Pistons scored in double figures.

Nuggets point guard Emmanuel Mudiay scored 19 points, as the Nuggets (3-6) lost their third straight.

Point guard Ish Smith got the Pistons off to a nice start. He hit an early baseline jumper and was able to complete to nice finishes around the rim against Nuggets center Jusuf Nurkic.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope nailed a couple of midrange jumpers. The starting backcourt combined for 13 points on 6-for-9 shooting to propel the Pistons to a 36-21 lead after the first quarter. The Pistons shot 64 percent.

Beno Udrih fueled the Pistons taking a 17-point lead early in the second quarter, but the Nuggets answered with a 22-8 lead to cut the deficit to 50-47.

But the Pistons closed on a 7-2 run to take a 57-49 lead into halftime.

After committing only two fouls in the first half, the Pistons sent the Nuggets to the line 13 times in the third quarter.

The Nuggets made 10, but the Pistons were still able to extend their lead to nine, 80-71, going into the fourth.

Morris was able to keep the Nuggets at bay with a stretch of nine straight points for the Pistons.
