Forward Jaron Blossomgame to join Rockets on training camp deal

Free agent forward Jaron Blossomgame has agreed to an “Exhibit 10” training camp deal with the Houston Rockets, as first reported by The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

The 26-year-old is entering his third professional season after being selected in the second round of the 2017 NBA Draft by San Antonio.

Known best for his wing defense, the 6-foot-7 forward averaged 4.2 points and 3.6 rebounds in 16.3 minutes per game (27 total) with the Cleveland Cavaliers last season. He scored a career-high 15 points (including 3-of-4 on three-pointers) on Dec. 19 versus Charlotte.

In 35 games at the G-League level, the Clemson product posted 18.5 points and 7.3 rebounds in 33.4 minutes per game last year.

When combined with the recent signing of veteran Thabo Sefolosha, Houston is now at the training camp maximum of 20 players.

Defense and depth on the wings has clearly been a priority for Houston GM Daryl Morey this offseason, as evidenced by the Sefolosha signing and the rumored pursuits of defensive-minded players like Andre Iguodala and Luc Mbah a Moute.

Training camp for the 2019-20 NBA season begins this Saturday for the Rockets, with the preseason opener coming just two days later on Monday, Sept. 30 versus the Shanghai Sharks.
