Fortnite servers are back online after four hours of downtime as Epic Games rolled out the latest patch version 12.40 for the popular game.

Epic Games confirmed the downtime for Fortnite earlier today as the game was taken offline at 7am BST.

The game was offline for about four hours, which means it has been unplayable the entire morning.

Now the update is out players will have no problem updating their game by downloading the new patch and logging back in.

The official Twitter page for Fortnite's server status shared the good news earlier.

Unfortunately, Epic Games has stopped sharing patch notes about all the features brought in these updates so we'll have to fire it up to see what's new in version 12.40.

Early player experience seems to indicate that Grenades have been brought back into the game but only for non-competitive modes.

The weapon was taken out of the game at the end of March because a bug was discovered when using the weapon.

On the other hand, Epic Games tweeted that Proximity Mines have been removed from all Battle Royale game modes 'while we investigate an issue'.

You can check on the server status here by using Epic Games' official server website for more information. At the time of this update, all servers and services are back online.

If there are more dramatic changes coming, we'll have to see the state of the game when the servers are back online.
