Fortnite 'down' as final Season 10 event 'crashes' leaving millions with 'black hole'

Fortnite game servers have crashed just as the game was due to air its big Season 10 live event.

There has been a massive spike in reports just as the event was due to begin.

Gamers have taken to Twitter to share their frustration after the crash has left them with a 'black hole' on their screens - after the game's original map disappeared.

The final Fortnite Season 10 (or Season X) event was scheduled to begin at 7pm in the UK and 2pm EST in the United States.

If this black hole genuinely is some sort of server downtime, then the game could be offline for 1-4 hours.

There is speculation that the game will reboot with a new spacce theme when it reemerges online.

Fans are awaiting Fortnite Chapter 2  which Epic has touted as a bigger shift than a simple Season 11.

Epic Games, the game's creator, tweeted: "We are aware that some folks are unable to login to the Epic Games launcher and are working on getting the service back to normal. As a work around, you can elect to skip login to access games that don't require you to be online."

One gamer tweeted: "I'm so confused what's going on with Fortnite?"

Epic Games previously warned of incoming server disruption to the game.

Other players have question whether Fortnite has ended.

User @DadaGamesBR said in a tweet: "I hope Fortnite has not ended."

@RealNotJoeyy added: "To be honest I think Fortnite is gone for ever. No new map or season or it's happening in a min."

A 'black hole' is visible on some screens, with millions of gamers waiting for the release of information about Season 11.

According to Forbes, this is the launch of Fortnite Chapter 2, which Epic is positioning as a much bigger shift than a simple Season 11.

Season 10 (X) came to an end via a dramatic event that ended with the player sucked into the rift above Loot Lake before everything in-game turned to a single image of a black hole - gamers can't start matches right now, or do anything at all.

The original Fortnite map is gone, according to IGN.

The map appears to have blown up after a series of rockets smashed into a central point on the map, just below the frozen-in-time meteor.

The image has been resting on a black hole for more than 20 minutes. and the Fortnite Twitter account has blacked out its profile picture.

If this black hole genuinely is some sort of server downtime for the game, then the game could be offline for somewhere between 1-4 hours.

It's being reported that users can play a mini game in your game, if they're still In-Game.

All you have to do is to enter the KONAMI Code on the screen!

Other gamers are reporting that Reddit, Twitch and Mixer are also down.

@Sadiesboca tweeted: "So the Fortnite map got destroyed in a live event that happened about 50 minutes ago. Fortnite is basically down everywhere. Reddit's down, Twitch is down, Mixer is down. In about an hour a new chapter of Fortnite is gonna begin. The game is far from over."

Many users have tweeted what they claim is a leaked image of the Chapter 2 map - but reports are unconfirmed.
