Fortnite Season 5 comes with long-awaited vehicle in major update

The wait for Fortnite Season 5 is finally over, with the Battle Royale update 5.0 featuring a much-anticipated special addition: an All Terrain Kart.

The golf buggy-type vehicle – referred to as an ATK – allows players to explore the new map and head into battle with their friends in tow.

Introducing a vehicle has been a highly requested feature by Fortnite players, while other updates to the popular game were also welcomed by players on social media.

These include new locations for the Battle Royale map, such as Paradise Palms, and new weapon sets in the form of Flintlock Weapons.

"Viking ships, desert outposts, and ancient statues have appeared across the island," Epic Games announced in the Fortnite Season 5 patch notes on Thursday, 12 July.

"Hop in an All Terrain Kart (ATK) with your squad and uncover all-new mysteries and locations that await."

The new vehicle makes brand new challenges in the Road Trip event possible, while the Season 5 update also comes with a new Battle Pass and over 100 new rewards.

Features of the ATK include speed boosts for drifting and collaborative controls that let passengers work together to help the kart jump higher.

Since launching in 2017, Fortnite has already attracted more than 45 million players around the world to become one of the most popular ever video games.

Its popularity has attracted cyber criminals and scammers, who are attempting to steal information and money from people playing it.

The promise of free V-Bucks – Fortnite's in-game currency – has lured players to dangerous websites that play host to malicious viruses and other cyber threats.

Experts warn that players should be weary of any offers that appear too good to be true.

"Epic [Games] could do a better job at educating their users on these malicious programs," game-streaming platform Rainway said in a recent blog post.

The new update is around 6.7 GB and can be downloaded for Ps4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch and iOS. Epic Games is yet to release an Android version of the game.
