I’ve played a whole bunch of Fortnite’s new 50v50 v2 mode with my kids this past week. It’s a lot of fun.
One of the coolest things about this mode is that less skilled players (like me and my kids) can get Victory Royales. Sure, it’s not the same thing as actually winning a match, but it’s still fun and for kids especially they get very excited.
The new version has two Battle Buses that move in different directions across a map divided into two sides. There’s just one final circle that each team converges on after looting and the final battle is typically pretty hectic and fun.
There’s just one problem: Far too many matches are still blowouts. That was a big part of the first version of this mode feeling unsatisfactory to play. And while it’s not quite as bad this time around, it’s still far too common.
There’s nothing fun about stocking up on gear and making your way toward the circle only to discover that your team is down by 20 players already.
It’s just as disappointing to get to the circle when your team is up by 20 or 30 kills. Sure, you can just start closer to the circle or in the circle (where you’ll get the best loot regardless) but even then it’s likely you’ll find yourself in a very lopsided game. Not always, mind you. We’ve played some great down-to-the-wire matches. But far too frequently nonetheless.
