Fortnite Nitro Drifter: locations, how to boost, and how to drift

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2’s first set of weekly challenges are here, including a challenge using the new Nitro Drifter car.

It’s been a week since Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 launched and I have to say, so far, so good. While the Battle Pass is a bit of a let-down skin-wise; the new areas like Mega City bring a lot of character to Fortnite with its vibrant Neo-Tokyo inspired aesthetic. The biggest new additions are the Kinetic Blade item – which is tons of fun to use – and the brand new Rogue bike and Nitro Drifter car.

The Nitro Drifter is the subject to one of week one’s weekly quests, in which you must destroy 25 objects while drifting or boosting while inside this brand new car. We’re here to show you how to do everything you need for this quest, including locating the car, how to drift and the challenge itself.

Fortnite Nitro Drifter: locations

Fortnite Nitro Drifters are unlike any other vehicle in the game because of their drifting ability. You can find them scattered all over the map, although there are a few areas where they're almost guaranteed to show up in as well roads and gas stations near to these locations.

  • Mega City
  • Steamy Springs
  • Slappy Shores
  • Kenjutsu Crossing

Naturally, the brand new Mega City POI is where you’ll find the most Nitro Drifters, with the gas station in the bottom left corner being a pretty safe bet. In fact, most gas stations are worth a peek if you're after the car.

The area surrounding Mega City is also a good place to find Nitro Drifter spawns, like Frenzy Fields, Steamy Springs, Slappy Shores and Kenjutsu Crossing, as well as the roads connecting them. Given the rates at which I've seen Nitro Drifters appear in the northern sections of the map – like Brutal Bastion and The Citadel – I wouldn't waste time poking around there. Based on my experience, I'd basically avoid any part of the map that isn't green or dark green.

Here's some of the areas where you're most likely to find a Nitro Drifter (Epic Games/Scott McCrae)

Fortnite Nitro Drifter: how to boost and drift

So you’ve found the Fortnite Nitro Drifter – but how do you drift? That part is fairly simple. When driving the vehicle, you'll see an onscreen prompt for drifting on the left side of the display. Assuming you use default controls it’s spacebar on PC, L1 on PS4 and PS5, LB on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, and L on Nintendo Switch.

As for boosting, once you’ve been drifting for long enough, straighten your car out and the boost should kick in automatically. Just make sure you have enough fuel as boosting takes up a lot of it!

Fortnite Nitro Drifter: weekly challenge

Once you have all of that down, it’s time to take care of the Week 1 challenge, which you'll need the Fortnite Nitro Drifter to complete. This week's task requires you to destroy 25 objects while drifting or boosting in the Nitro Drifter. To break something while drifting, just aim the back of the car at the item you want to destroy, and watch it disappear. While it’s easier enough to break things during a boost, that method uses up more fuel as a trade-off.

Thankfully, Mega City – where you’re most likely to find a Nitro Drifter – is packed full of lampposts, fire hydrants, and other small objects that are easy to destroy. Frenzy Fields is another good spot for the Week 1 challenge as there's a surplus of wooden fences to smash there.

You’re now up to speed on this weekly challenge, so get out there and channel your inner The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and break some stuff to get a nice 12,000 XP towards your Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 Battle Pass level.
