Fortnite gamer admits live-streamed assault of his pregnant partner

A gamer today pleaded guilty to assaulting his pregnant partner during an argument that was live-streamed as he played Fortnite.

Luke Munday, 26, admitted the attack on Grace Campbell, 21, when he appeared in court in Picton, New South Wales, today. He was arrested in December after fellow gamers saw the video — which went viral — and reported it to police. It did not show the assault in frame but it did capture audio.

According to an agreed statement of facts, Telstra network engineer Munday slapped his partner in the face and pushed her to the floor after she had thrown items at him.

The fight broke out after she had asked him several times to stop playing the game and eat dinner. Each time he said he would be out soon. “The victim stated she became frustrated with the lack of response,” the statement said.

“I just held her down because I wanted her to stop,” Munday later told police. He was banned from live-streaming platform Twitch after the incident.

Magistrate Ian Cheetham adjourned Munday’s sentencing to August 26 and made him the subject of a two-year apprehended violence order protecting the victim.
