Fortnite 'black hole': Mums say kids are 'heartbroken' and feel 'world has ended’

It’s one of the most popular video games around, but over the weekend Fortnite mysteriously crashed, leaving players unable to access the game.

The servers crashed just as the game was due to air its big Season 10 live event, and players are now only able to see a strange ‘black hole’ on their screens.

Epic Games, the developer behind Fortnite, has also deleted all the tweets on the Fortnite Twitter account.

While the outage is likely to be in preparation for the launch of Fortnite Chapter 2, many fans are panicking that their precious skins may have been lost in the process.

Skins are graphics which can be used to change the appearance of a character in the game, and typically cost between £6 and £20.

Speaking to Mirror Online, concerned mother Kayla Williams said: “My son is heartbroken, he’s spent a massive £3,000 on this game since he started playing in season 2.

“What are Epic going to do? People saying the game has ended for good so do we get full refunds on the money we spent because no game means no nothing so we lose out!”

Another worried mother, Sam Russ, added: “My 10 year old saves up for the new season to come out so today very excited, couldn't wait to purchase Fortnite 10, then to be horrified, crying his heart out, lost his money, and he saves hard to buy skins.

“It’s the end of the world for him as he knows it.”

Many concerned players have also taken to Twitter to vent the frustrations.

One user tweeted: "Welp since Fortnite is over, I think I pretty much lost all my skins."

Another wrote: "Got my son crying and sad cause he thinks he lost all his VBucks and Skins y’all gotta do better."

And one added: "Imagine the amount of money lost by streamers if fortnite actually ended or restarted without the old skins."

Thankfully, PlayStation has confirmed that any items bought in the game are secure during the outage.

The Ask PlayStation Twitter account explained: “Please be assured that your inventory items and V-Bucks are secure during the Fortnite Blackout.
